Usually, in the beginning of the video, I am trying to present you the car I am testing, but when it comes to Wolkswagen Golf is makes no sense, since this is one of the best – known cars in the world. We can even identify this car as one of the best-selling and most successful cars in history, considering the fact that in the last 40 years Golf has sold 33 million pieces, while there is a new car coming out of the factory line every 40 seconds.Because of this, Golf is seen as some kind of a etalon of lower middle class, that is also referred to as a Golf-Klasse, and Golf as a whole is a criterion of all other competition cars and every car is being compared to this one. This is the newest execution, new Golf, as the stickers are saying, because it is a facelift, even though you would not say so from this point of view. Modernisation however brings up a lot of changes, while not as many of the optical ones. Firstly, there is the reworked fender, and the headlights with beautifully done graphics. In the basic version you have the halogen ones and a day row of LED lights. The second stage are the full-LED, so xenons respectively bi-xenons have been canceled. In my case, full-LED, the blinker, daylight and driving beams, fog lights stay in the halogen version. The third stage is on the first sight totally identical, you only have the aiming and automatic driving beams with cut outs. The last thing, new colour, a silver metallic “White”, that looks kinda grey-ish, a very interesting shade. The wheel design, many innovative parts and you can have a R-Line packet, therefore a more sporty bumpers and so on. While you have been looking at the exterior shots, I turned the car to show you its back part. There you will even in the basic version the full LED lights, faclifted and with very nice graphics. Moreover, if you pay the additional fee, the lights have the blinkers in the style of Audi, which is really funny. I think that the lights look good and the luminous intensity of the front LED-lights, as I have already told you while testing the Passat, VW is from me partially a premium car manufacturer and the lights only prove that, while that would be the first thing that I would pay the additional fee for. Subsequently the new bumper, trunk space of well known 380 litres. I still really enjoy Golf. The second I added the photo of this car on ma FB page, and I told you that I am going to test otu the facelifted Golf,
you flooded me with comments and messages asking about the new 1.5 TSI Evo engine. That is by the way very pleasant for me, that we get to communicate interactively and if you have any questions I can seamlessly answer them, unfortunately, I do not have this engine under the hood, and even thought that that is really the main focus and highlight of the modernisation, this aggregate will be on our market by the end of the year, respectively in the beginning of 2018. So in my case, 1.4 TSI engine, and that is also why I am not gonna include the classic ride-throughs and feelings from the ride, because this engine is ultimately well-known and there is no need to talk about it in detail.Shortly, 92 kW / 125 PS and I personally think that this is the most ideal engine in the world. Yes, there is a possibility to choose an aggregate 1.0 TSI, this really surprised me in A3, so you must not judge it, mainly if you have not tried it. But with this engine, the consumption can be kept at 4 l/100 km or 4,5 l/100 km, I have it for a long term at 5,5 litre /100 km including a more lithe ride, which I think is a really good result. And if someone would not be content with the present dynamics, which I personally doubt, there is a 150 PS version in stock, so as long as the 1.5 engine is not here, this is the most ideal engine in this car, and I think that there is no point of getting a diesel one here. In any case, let’s move to more substantial things and to the innovations, that can be spotted immediately in the interior. The dashboard is still keeping the conservative vibe, so you will not find here any design or aesthetic fads as in the competition cars. On the other hand, I have to say, that because of that, the design seems timeless, and I really have to highlight the ergonomics and the processing, the germans and their rigour is very well present here.Apart from the LED lights, that I have showed you, and the engine, that I did not show you because it is not here, but will be coming shortly, a great deal of attention is focused on the pair of new displays an infotainment that has undergone a lot of changes. In my case, this is the middle execution, therefore a 8” screen, placed in a very nice, cleat glass, so no more plastics. As you can see, it leaves a fingerprints, so you have to clean in all the time, if you are a detailist as I am. The advantage is, the top performance, that has a 9,2”
diagonal and is whole place in the glass, you do not even have these buttons for volume and music. That is a bit controversial for me, because even here you can see only the touch buttons, and it works very nicely, mainly in the time of smarthphones, you really could have predicted this trend and this inclination, but when you are driving and you cannot feel the buttons, it can get a bit tricky, not even considering the fingerprints that are left on the screens. So the fact that you have at least this button here, is a big plus for me. This is the Composition Media radio, after that there is the Discovery Media one, that looks similar, but you get the navigation as well, which I do not have here. The best one is the already mentioned Discovery Pro, the 9,2” execution that looks very nicely. You have the touch buttons on this side and you can even use gesture control, that is a novelty in this class. The infotainment was reworked, it looks very good, very pure and clear graphics, great processing and also the resolution. You have here the media, you can pair your phone, applications, because also the connectivity was reworked, so the connection to the internet, many safety features and assistants. You can set up many things here, and it is very intuitive. I have to add, that is all works a lot faster than in the past.It looks fabulous, the only problem are the smudges. Well, it obviously has some cons. And the virtual speedometers, or as Volkswagen calls them, Active Info Display, 12,3” speedometers. I personally think, that when it comes to non-premium brands, this is from my point of view the best system of the digital speedometers. It is true, that Peugeot has surprised us with the iCockpit, but that one seems too futuristic for me, and I think that sometimes less is more. You can control in with the multifunctional steering wheel. The classic way is looking as if they were analog speedometers. Secondly, you can put the actual speed on the right side and on the left side the gear speed, which comes handy when you have the 6-speed manual gearbox as I have here. Moreover, there is consumption and the range. It kinda bothers me that the range is portrayed in a big letters, while the current speed is down there, and it could be completely switched up. The range is important but you do not have to pay that much attention to it, you can still put the actual speed into the middle, but you
might as well put there the navigation in the higher versions. After, there are some data about the efficiency, consumption and some eco suggestions. You can also put driving data in the middle, speed, caution, consumption, range, practically everything. After, there is a state of the car, whether there are any faults, after you have the mobile phone, and if it is connected, you can go through your contacts. The last thing, the radio, so you can go through all the stations, while looking at a very nice graphics. The only disadvantage for me, and yes, it is trendy but you have to get used to it, mainly at night, when it really distracts your eyes.I am not saying that it is extremely bad, but the analogue speedometers will always be better when it comes to this. And the inconvenience is exactly the thing, that even thought it all works perfectly, whether it is the graphics or the content, I am only missing a possibility of physical button on the left side as the premium carmakers have, so you can manage the brightness at night. This function is here, but you have to get there through the menu, and it takes time till you find it, set it up, and then when you want to set it back up, it is really complicated. That is why, the physical button is better. Other than that, I think that this is the way to go, we will see how they will improve in the future, mainly if you have the radio Discover Pro and you have the navigation in the middle and you can change the view, it looks really good, it almost reminds you of the Virtual Cockpit from Audi.Steering wheel, multifunctional, a counted 18 buttons, which is more than enough, but when you live with them for a while, you get the division into the sections and you will find out that is it well done even the cruise control is on the steering wheel and not under it on the lever. Interior is well known, the central panel is a bit turned to the driver. The last thing, pricing policy. I have here the exact specification. The car in which I am sitting is Golf, Comfortline, 1.4 TSI, 6-speed manual, and and in version with 92 kW, the price is 19 400 €.The prices paradoxically dropped as it was up until now while the equipment for a bit better, which is really unusual. For the additional fee, I have the Active Info Display – 600 €, Madrid 17” discs 770 €, Ergo Active seats with better lateral support and pull-out seat and after there are the LED lights with
dynamic blinkers and setting of driving profile – Eco, Normal, Sport and Individual. Moreover the dimming of the glass from B column. In the end, this car costs 23 200 €, which I think is a very interesting offer. .
