Today on our 2012 volkswagen touareg we’re going to be taking a look at installing the curt custom fit class 3 trailer hitch receiver part number c13119 hitch is going to look like once its installed on our vehicle you can see it’s gonna be real nice and tucked up underneath the back end of our vehicle replacing that bumper beam that was originally under there now this is going to have a 600 pound tongue weight Maxx tongue weight capacity and 6,000 pound towing capacity with that 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube keep in mind that with this receiver hitch weight distribution is not recommended to have a 5/8 inch pinhole going straight through to attach all your accessories as well as heavy-duty fully welded design and black powder coat finish that’s going to help make it durable and prevent any kind of rust and corrosion now we’ll go ahead and give you a few measurements to help you in selecting from hitch accessories for your new hitch from the center of the pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper it’s gonna be about 1 and 3/4 inches from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is going to be about 17 inches these measurements should assist you in selecting new hitch accessories such as ball mounts bike racks and cargo carriers first thing we’re going to do is take our t25 Torx bit and undo the four fasteners and screws located here on the bottom of the bumper fascia we’re gonna have to remove the bumper in order to place our hitch in place of the factory bumper beam now if your vehicle is equipped with mud flaps you’re gonna have to remove about five screws in order to pull your mud flaps off this vehicle does not have it equipped so we’re just gonna have to remove the one screw here on the bottom is that t25 and pull the screw out alright now anything we do here on the passenger side we’re obviously going to repeat that on the driver’s side since all the same fasteners are gonna be used go ahead and pull down to separate the trim from the back side of the bumper now you’ll see that there’s gonna be some fasteners here that are gonna attach that to that bumper fascia go ahead and pull back on that trim just very so gently so you don’t break anything all the way up until it’s past that seam in the top of the bumper now go ahead and pull that trim out of the way and you’re going to notice that there’s going to be a few more fasteners that we’re gonna have to remove there’s gonna be a total of one two three and four
let’s start down here on the bottom and remove them now that we got those screws removed on the fenders let’s go ahead and move up into the back end of our vehicle to remove our taillight assemblies we’re gonna locate the two caps one on either side here’s the one on the passenger side located right here at the bottom we’ll take a small flat blade screwdriver stick it in the end here and pop it out our bolt that we’re gonna need to remove is gonna be right here now go ahead and take an 11 millimeter socket and unthread that bolt once you have it on thread should be able to pull out on the taillight assembly we’ll take that small flat blade screwdriver and pop out the safety here and then press down to release the tail light on the driver’s side we’re going to have a small little plastic cap right here that we’re going to need to remove as well go ahead and pull straight back rotated downwards pop out the red safety and press down on the tab go ahead and use a t30 to remove the two Torx bits up here on top in the taillight assembly and then we’ll push out the center of the pushpin here now that we got the center punched out one pop that underneath and pull it straight out now we’ll go ahead and get an extra set of hands to help us pull off the rear bumper fascia well then lift up and as we lift up we’re going to come down to the bottom of the fender and kind of pull it backwards as we come backwards we need to look for those sensor wires located at the bottom if your vehicle is equipped with them all right down here on the bottom side don’t go ahead and separate those two now we’ll go ahead and set this in a nice spot where it’s not going to get damaged now we’ll go ahead and remove the foam insert in between the bumper beam and these plastic pieces up here now we’re going to remove the bumper beam since our hitch is going to be replacing it there’s gonna be four 18 millimeter bolts on each side oh and undo those pull out on the bumper beam and we’ll set that off to the side to return to the customer now I’ll go ahead and get an extra set of hands to help us hold the hitch up into place while we were refasten or hardware that was originally securing that bumper beam for our new receiver hitch use the alignment tab for the bumper beam let’s go ahead and put up our hitch thread them in by hand and get them started so that you don’t cross thread it and once we’ve got them all started by tightening down now go ahead and
torque all of our bolts to manufacturer specifications now we’ll go ahead and put back in our foam insert we’re going to line up the tab up here on top and slide it over now go ahead and get an extra set of hands to help us put the bumper cover back up into place go ahead and hook up our sensor by plugging it in until it clicks I’ll bring the bumper up and into place press it forward until it all clicks in now go ahead and risa cure all of our fasteners and then put our fender flares back up into position go ahead and reattach those t30 Torx bits slide back in the push fastener and push down on the center once you have that in go ahead and reattach the tail light assembly lock the locking tab on the back remember to line up the tab here as you press it in and then we’ll tighten back down the 11 millimeter bolt right here on the back of the tail light assembly once you have a tighten down going place the cover back over and then we’ll repeat that same process on the driver’s side go ahead placing the top screw first once we get that top one in go ahead and work our way down go ahead and push our fender flare back into place line up all the tabs and press it in once you have it in make sure that you don’t have the the felt of the fender well cover binding you up at all now go ahead and Risa cure those four screws across the bottom of our bumper fascia and that will do it for a review and installation of the curt custom fit class 3 trailer hitch receiver part number c13119 2012 volkswagen touareg
