To reach by car the Stelvio Pass going through Bormio and from South Tyrol it is still an exciting adventure. The curves follow each other at a relentless pace, and at every turn the vacuum is being felt more and more! The excitement and the wonder for this “bold” road inaugurated in 1825 by Archduke Joseph Ferdinand, is incredible. The morning is bright, and the Stelvio glaciers reflect a celestial light that surrounds us entering from the panoramic roof of our Tiguan that, bend after bend, goes fast and secure with the “sports” selection inserted. At least once in life you should get up here, first by car and then by the modern cable cars that lead (in 2 sections) to Livrio Refuge enthroned in her ice kingdom to over 3,000 meters. Reached the Stelvio Pass, equipped with a special permission and inserted the “off road” mode, we travel along the road, cut between walls of snow that reaches the intermediate station of the cable cars.We park in the ice at 3000 meters and with the second section of the cable car we reach the mythical Livrio Refuge. The high-mountain atmosphere is felt especially in the evening, when the cable cars stop connecting with the pass and the romantic isolation from the rest of the world becomes total! Life at Livrio is simple, we wake up from the sun when in the valley it is still dark and the view is immediate: all ice. A morning of skiing and again we reach our Tiguan for back down the Passo Stelvio. The route is truly “off road” the feeling is to go up a bobsled track with a challenging background mixture of mud and snow. To increase the difficulty of this challenge in the ice for the Tiguan, there is also the slope supported and the tight bends from bumpy due to the thaw.Challenge that, thanks to the intelligent and immediate 4Motion transmission of the new Tiguan we can win at full speed! Bormio direction, passing through the Gavia Pass, another bold and legendary destination, with impossible landscapes and dizzying hairpin bends! .
