New VW Camper UPDATE confirmed – Cargo edition of the ID Buzz announced VW confirmed this year that it was in the form of the new I. D Buzz shared some of the same characteristics of the iconic camper but its style and technology features are completely modern and futuristic.
Now, VW has confirmed that it will also come in Cargo spec, which is aimed at the commercial industry. So therefore the I. D Buzz will become a van of sorts, but we imagine that many will just convert it into a futuristic camper like its older sibling was used for. This version of the concept car is slated for launch in 2022.
Differences between the standard model and Cargo are yet to be divulged, but a flat black cabin, greater load capacity and possibly larger size could be sensible assumptions. Standard version specs for the car were confirmed alongside the car being announced. Two per options will be available when the car goes on sale.
The higher-capacity variant with all-wheel drive has an output of 369bhp from its massive 111 kWh battery pack. Range estimations from this battery costs around 270 miles on a single charge. It will also be able to sprint from zero to 60mph in under five seconds and have a top speed of 99mph.
The entry-level model will be rear-wheel drive and produces 268 bhp from its 83kWh battery pack and have range closer to 200miles. These specs are likely to change over time as the car is still five years away. In addition to the announcement of the new Cargo edition.
VW has also announced that its Truck and Bus division is investing heavily in autonomic driving technology, connected tech and alternative powertrains. D Buzz should have a degree of autonomy as the front seats can swivel around to face the rear cabin but it may not bolster the Level Five autonomy that the company is aiming for. .
