Thule Archway Trunk Bike Racks Review – 2016 Volkswagen Jetta

In Volkswagen Jetta

Today on this 2016 volkswagen jetta we’re going to be test fitting the thule archway xt 2-bike rack part number th9001 we already have a bike installed on the rack let’s go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features how the bike is actually attached to the rack we’re going to have three points of contact with the bike’s frame we’re have two straps up at the top here one off to our side here and that’s going to serve as an anti-sway strap to keep the bike from moving too far back and forth possibly hitting the bikes in front of it or the bike rack itself also at the front here we have an integrated cable lock which you can install the lock core here wrap it around the front bike attach it to this point for additional security so let’s go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside now it’s always a good idea to go ahead and put the straps back in place once you remove them just so you don’t lose them we’re all on the road all right now with the bike rack in this position measuring from the bumper that at about 20 inches now if you need two more additional clearance in the rear or in a close quarter situation such as parking you can fold these arms down to do that on both sides there’s this leather this gray lever pull that out turn it to the left to loose and right to tighten you can just kind of shake the arms loose fold them down as needed and then tighten it back up do the same for the other side all right now with the bike rack in this position now at about six and a half inches from the real how this actually attaches to your trunk we’re going to have six points of contact we’re going to have two black rubber hooks up at the top here so off to the side about the taillights and then the two at the bottom there’s also going to be a pad here at the bottom as well as the top and that’s going to keep your vehicle from getting scratched while you’re installing this now if you look off to the side here there’s this dial here this is what is called the fit dial for this specific vehicle and that’s going to be set at seven although you want to double check with the instructions to be sure so there you have it for the thule archway xt 2-bike rack part number th9001 and 16 volkswagen jetta here it is on our test course we’ll start by going through the slalom this is going to show us the side to side action which simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvers you next we’re at the alternating speed bumps which
will see the twisting action this will simulate hitting a curb or pothole or driving over uneven pavement you finally we have the full speed bumps up and down action which is just like driving out of a parking lot garage or driveway you
