Thule Roof Bike Racks Review – 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

In Volkswagen Jetta

Today on our 2013 volkswagen jetta we’re doing a test fit of the thule thruride roof mounted bike rack that part number is th535 now we already have our bike up there we’re first going to show you how we secure that down so here in the back we have a ratcheting strap that you’re gonna see on most of your bike racks we also have a bushing there that’s going to just hold your smaller bike tires down in that cradle just a little more secure we’re gonna push on the gray button here and release that now great thing about that cradle is that it is adjustable you can move it along the length of your bike rack there up at the front we have a different kind of skewer we have the same normal skewer that you’re gonna see here but instead of it being attached to the bike rack we’re actually going to be able to release these two silver pieces holding it in place by lifting up that cover and then the gray knob on the inside will actually loosen and tighten those two sandwich pieces so you can put different you can also use this as it thru-axle as well so we’ll just close that up that secures that skier in place and to actually mount your bike we’ll open the lever on this side and we can use the black knob on the opposite side to loosen and tighten the skewer around your bike that loose we can take our bike off and set it off to the side and then any time you remove your bike I always suggest that you replace your straps so you don’t lose or damage any of them and then if we take a look back here we have a metal bracket that’s covered in a rubber coating to protect your crossbar it’s got two thumb screws on either side one thumb screw on either side excuse me and use those to loosen and tighten the bracket around your crossbar a great thing about that is that it does accommodate different style crossbars that you may have as well up at the front we have two plastic brackets down here with screws that go in the back and that’s what’s gonna secure around your front bar to release those we’re just gonna pull up on the cam levers up at the top these cam levers this one does have the option to lock it if you want to secure your bike rack to your vehicle even further and to release that bracket we’re just going to pull that bolt out and to loosen and tighten the bracket around your crossbar we’ll actually use the cam lever up at the top and that’s going to loosen and tighten the bolt up front and then again we also have that locking option if
you want to purchase a core for both this cam lever and for the cover here so that’s gonna be our completed look at the thule thruride roof-mounted bike rack part number th513 on our 2013 volkswagen jetta here on our test course we’ll start by going through the slalom this is going to show us the side-to-side action which simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvers once we get to the alternating speed bumps we’ll see the twisting action this will simulate hitting a curb or pothole or driving over uneven pavement once we get to the full speed bumps we’ll see the up and down action this will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot garage or driveway you
