Trailer Hitch Install: CURT 11412 on a Volkswagen GTI

In Volkswagen GTI

Welcome to the installation video of the CURT 11412 class 1 trailer hitch on a 2015 VW GTI. To begin, we will be lowering the exhaust. Support the exhaust system with a ratchet strap or wire hanger to prevent damage to the exhaust system. To lower the exhaust system remove the two bolts holding the exhaust in place.

Next, fishwire the hardware into the rearmost attachment point. To do this, insert the coiled end of a fishwire into the attachment hole in the frame and out the access hole. Place a square hole spacer over this end and insert it into the frame of the vehicle. Thread a carriage bolt onto the coiled end and place it into the frame as well.

Pull on the opposite end of the fishwire bringing the carriage bolt through the spacer and out through the attachment point. Leave the fishwire attached to the bolt to make sure that none of the hardware is lost in the frame. Reverse fishwire the hardware into the foreward most attachment point.

To do this, thread a carriage bolt onto the coiled end of a fishwire and insert into the frame. Place a square hole spacer onto the other end of the fishwire, and insert it into the frame rail as well. Pull on the end of the fishwire bringing the carriage bolt through the spacer and out through the frame. Leave the fishwire attached to the bolt to make sure that none of the hardware is lost in the frame. Repeat the fishwiring process on the other side of the vehicle.

Raise the hitch into position. Feed the fishwires through the mounting holes before lifting the side plates of the hitch up to the frame of the vehicle. Remove the fishwires from the hardware and secure with the provided hex flange nuts. Repeat this process on the opposite side.Torque all hardware to the exact value specified in the supplied instruction sheet. Re-install the exhaust and remove the exhaust support.

This completes the installation of the CURT 11412 class 1 trailer hitch on a 2015 VW GTI. Check out our stylish CURT euromounts, and install the vehicle specific trailer wiring harness for your ride. Thank you for watching this video! Now you can BRING IT. .
