Trailer Hitch Installation – 2009 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen – Draw-Tite

In Volkswagen Jetta

Today on our 2009 volkswagen jetta sportwagen we will be installing the draw-tite sport frame class 1 inch and a quarter trailer hitch receiver part number 24 866 here’s what the hitch looks like once it’s been installed it sucks up fairly nicely underneath the bumper cover of her vehicle the one thing you really see hanging down is the frame of the hitch itself and the inch and a quarter class 1 receiver this hitch is rated for 200 pounds max tongue weight and 2,000 pounds max trailer weight utilizes your standard half-inch diameter hitch pin hole here as you can see your safety chain loops are very easily accessible here and you can even use the smallest diameter safe chains on there without any problem now for a few measurements to better assist you in choosing any hitch mounted accessories you’re looking about 4 inches from the center of the half-inch diameter hitch pin hole to the rear most point of our back bumper here and you’re also looking at about ten and a half inches from the ground to the top of the inch and a quarter receiver opening there okay with our spare tire and tools already removed this first hole here towards the front on the driver’s side needs to have the grommet removed from it and once it’s removed you can put a b2c land around it like I’ve already done then we can drop down this half inch bolt and spacer plate here just like so now we can go underneath the vehicle and start installing our hardware to raise the hitch up now typically you’d have a fascia plate here in this area that covers everything up for whatever reason our vehicle right now it does not have one will take this base plate here on the handle insert it through the access hole in the frame and we’ll slide it on forward just like so now we lower our exhaust on the driver’s side then we’ll remove the two bolts that hold the exhaust hanger on now for the rear bolt on the passenger side ours has already been installed previously you had to do a fish wire so you’ll pull a fish wire through the bolt hole to bring it out to where this handle nut came through you put on a spacer plate first on the pull wire and you’ll throw down your carriage bolt and you’ll pull it through and you’ll come out through here on the frame rail just like so so for the time being when to pull through we just push it back in now at the hope of an assistant will raise our hitch into position going up and over our exhaust user a conical tooth washer with the teeth
facing the hitch and our half inch nut and we’ll just get that about finger tight just to help hole up some of the late before we pull the bolt through our hitch you make sure the spacer plates in between the body of the hitch and the frame so we’ll stick it on there throw a pull wire let’s take your full wire on through like so then we can raise it up into position and will support the weight on the passenger side using the other bolt and the conical tooth washer okay with our space are played in and our bolt pull through will move our pull wire here making sure we don’t accidentally push the bolt into the body of the vehicle so we’ll install our conical tooth washer with the teeth facing the hitch and we’ll install or nut being really careful we don’t push the bolt in so we use these two smaller bolts that come with our hitch that are longer than the factory exhaust hanger bolts here and we’ll put our exhaust hanger back up underneath the hitch just like so and we’ll install the bolts now if our bolts started we’ll start to tighten everything up there’s a 19 millimeter socket on this one 19 millimeter on this one as well and finally nineteen millimeter on this one too now we’ll torque all the bolts the manufacturer specifications found on the instructions now that Oliver fasteners are tort to manufacture specification reinstall our exhaust hanger here sometimes you put a little lubricant on those rubber hangers just to make them slide a little bit easier okay and that completes our installation of the draw-tite sport frame trailer hitch class 1 receiver part number 248 66 on our 2009 volkswagen jetta sports wagon
