Trailer Hitch Installation – 2014 Volkswagen Touareg – Curt

In Volkswagen Touareg

Today on our 2014 volkswagen touareg we’ll be installing the curt hitch part number c13119 it to look like once installed next I’ll give you a couple measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch such as a ball mount bike rack or cargo carrier from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is one and a half inches from the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 17 and a quarter inches well now go ahead and begin our installation now to begin our install well first need to remove the vehicle’s rear bumper or fascia to remove the fascia there are multiple fasteners that’ll need to be removed we’ll start here underneath the vehicle removing the four Torx bit fasteners across the center of the lower fascia now once we have those four fasteners removed well move to the wheel wells or the bottom where the wheel well meets the fascia on some applications there’ll be a mud flap that’ll need to be removed however for this application we don’t have any mud flaps so we’ll just remove the fastener will be one on each side now it’s a fastener remove to the bottom of the trim we’re going to go ahead and pull it out and away from the vehicle so we can access the fasteners underneath that secure the rear fascia to the rear sheetmetal now as we pull it out we just need it enough that we can access the one Torx bit fasteners that holds the fascia to the sheet metal and the fastener here that holds the wheel well liner to the fascia and one at the bottom now to detach the wheel well liner there are two Torx bit fasteners they’ll need to be removed now with the top one out and the tube the wheel well liner will move underneath and get the last one here at the bottom corner now with all the fasteners removed here on the passenger side I’ll move over to the driver’s side and repeat the same process next we’re going to open up the rear hatch and remove two access panels one on each side so that we can remove the rear taillight assemblies we’ll need to remove the taillight assemblies to gain access to the fasteners underneath them here on the driver’s side the excess panel is simply a round black plug remove the plug I’m just going to take a flat blade screwdriver get behind it and pop it out next using a Levin millimeter socket we can get on the nut behind the rear panel that will release the taillight assembly we’ll go ahead and pop the rear taillight assembly out by pulling it
straight back away from the body of the vehicle once it’s released we can go ahead and turn it over swing in access to the electrical connector this connector goes into the socket of the taillight assembly the red tab will unlock the connector by pulling up away from and then pressing on the black tab underneath it to release the connector once we have the taillight assembly out we’ll just set it aside and blow it our two Torx bit fasteners and one small pushpin fastener in the front corner we’ll go ahead remove the two Torx bit fasteners circle now to remove this small pushpin fasteners will actually take our small punch or screwdriver press the center of the fastener in and then remove the body of the fastener from the hole now with the three fasteners removed here on the driver’s side I’ll move over the passenger side and repeat the same process here on the passenger side the excess panel will be the plastic trim it’ll simply get behind it pop it out and access its a securing nut make sure we have it backed off all the way and then we can pop the taillight out just like we did on the driver’s side set the taillight assembly aside I remove the three fascia fasteners underneath now with all the fasteners removed we can go ahead and pop the rear fascia free and set it aside to free it here below the taillight assembly we can simply just pull up on the fascia releasing it from the hooks underneath then we’ll move to the wheel wells and pop them free pulling it out and releasing it from the fasteners underneath now it’s a good idea to get next to the hands help you hold the fascia as you pull it out away from the body of the vehicle now with our rear fascia off we can go ahead and remove the foam insert between the steel bumper and the plastic trim well set it aside as it can be reinstalled once the hitch is in place next we need to remove the steel bumper there are a total of eight fasteners four on each side that’ll need to be removed we’ll just leave one fastener in place on each side well remove the three fasteners completely for each side and then we’ll gain extra set of hands to help us remove the steel bumper now once we go ahead and remove those two fasteners we can remove a steel bumper well set the steel bumper aside and it will not be reinstalled now we’re ready to put the hitch in place well reuse the manufacturer’s fasteners to secure the hitch where we just removed the bumper we’ll go ahead and install
each fastener finger tight till we have Maul back in place and then we can go ahead and tighten them down now with all our pastors in place we’ll go ahead and tie them down now with all our fasteners tightened down we’ll go and torque the specification as indicated instructions then once we have all our fasteners tightened down and torque the specifications we can go ahead and reinstall the foam insert and rear fascia special note you do not have to put the foam insert back in place but it’s our preference to go ahead and do so and that’ll do it for the install of the curt hitch part number c13119 2014 volkswagen Chuey you
