Let me start by correcting you: this is not the Passat CC, but simply the CC. Comfort Coupe, or something like that. I have to say, this is a fine example of a facelift that is not automatically leading to a better or cooler car. Because the Passat CC had a distinctive and very good looking front. And it’s not directly because I find this an ugly car, but it’s based on the design DNA from Volkswagen, as mentioned in the press release. Which means that it will look a lot like the other Volkswagen models. A little more specific: the Phaeton and the standard Passat. So the distinctiveness has become less visual. But, Volkswagen compensates this, for example, with: LED, which is extremely important for the average leaser. We also predict that, starting the 2nd half of 2012, leasers won’t select their car on tax advantages, but on the availability of LED. The performance of this 2 liter TFSI is pretty good: a top speed of 150 mph (240 km/h) and 0-60 mph in 7,6 seconds. It simply has enough traction, and the famous DSG transmission makes sure that changing gear goes flawless. The only comment here is that when you’re driving in “Drive” it sometimes chooses a really high gear. For example, I’m now driving 38 mph (60 km/h), in the fifth gear with 1300 rpm. Now, when I floor it, it goes back to the second gear resulting in a pretty good acceleration. This whole process goes really quick, so it’s all working as it’s supposed to. Of course, we know this engine from every car coming from the Volkswagen Group, including the Golf GTI. And it’s a good block, delivering a satisfactorily sound at the outside and no sound on the inside of the car. This because of Volkswagen’s effort to make the inside of the car soundproof, in which they succeeded, because it’s really restful inside. Listen to it, no sound at all. Furthermore, we’ve a lot of cool options on board. A lot of new things with a few adjustments. So is it not necessary to do the parallel parking yourself, because the CC can do this on its own. The Passat CC was also capable of doing this, but the CC is simply better at it.Besides of that: lane assist combined with blind spot detection, or in other words: is there something in your blind spot? If that’s the case, and you try to go in that direction, then the CC will correct you. And it will also do this with road surface marking. Which is pretty annoying if you ask me. And furthermore, I think that if you’re driving
with a system like that for a few years… and suddenly decide to take your wife’s Polo, you got a good chance at ending up at the side of the road. This car simply does a lot of things for you. Not a positive development per se, I’m not sure if this makes it safer in the end. But this is the Volkswagen with the most amazing interior! Okay, there’s some wood in here that would be better off in the stove. But besides of that, for example the seats are simply perfect. Perfected in detail and build from light brown and dark brown leather, so we’re good in the earth colors today. All together, this cars feels a little premium, which brings me to the positioning of this car. Well, this may be a car for people who would rather not buy an Audi or BMW because they find that a little too showy. So the CC may be more suited for the normal guy who made enough money, or something like that. The Volkswagen CC is chic, but not really cheap. It’s in the Netherlands a little under 39.000 euros. For this you get a 160 hp gasoline engine block. But a CC with more than 170 hp, comes standard with an adaptive chassis. In the Golf I found this really unnecessary, but in the CC I noticed some difference. But the influence of the adaptive chassis is in the CC not as big as in the uber-class, such as the S-class, 7-serie and A8.But in comfort mode you do feel the differences, as well as in sport mode when everything gets a little rougher. So if your wife forbids you to buy a premium car, visit the Volkswagen dealer sometime. Because this is basically a premium car, but looks a little different because of the badges. You also pay a premium price, but it does feel different. .
