Do you see the differences? Quite difficult. Yes… …VW states this design as one of the most recognisable around the world. And they are right. Because it still looks like its predecessor… …and even the previous model of the predecessor. But this is the real new Golf 7. Look once more, it’s really the new Golf. And this car will become your new lease-lover. You guys will pull this car from the showroom in big numbers. And why? Mainly because this car does everything you expect from a car. It’s performing well and pleasant.Without distinguishing itself greatly from other vehicles and… …for some people that is a disadvantage. Personally I think the car is a little boring. Secondly, it is a very good car and… …let’s try it today. Eye-catching is the interior, it is many times more beautiful than the previous generation. Well, not many times but only a couple of times more beautiful. There are new materials used and the center console is divided differently.New navigation, this version has a very luxurious one. Without options you’ll get a 5″ touchscreen in the new Golf. This version has a much larger model, I don’t exactly know what size it is. Well.. …I guess it is 9 inches in diameter. I think? I’m not really good with American dimensions. But the size of the screen is significant. The navigation has a nice bird-view mode… …with a touchscreen to control zooming etc. Just like you do that on your mobile phones. I’m not going to say iPhone because all Samsung fans would object against that and… …asking me why I’m not talking about Android. Well, because I don’t have an Android, sorry. Another nice feature is that you can use the entire screen… …to see what is necessary. Only if you move your hand to the screen, the buttons show up. Buttons for changing your settings or to fill in a destination, things like that. That’s quite useful because when I have my hands at the steering wheel, I don’t need to see those buttons. So show me the map as much as you can, that’s really cool. Another new feature on the Golf 7 is ‘Multi Collision Brake’. I hear you thinking, multi collision? I mean when I have an accident, I only have one. After that I’m finished clashing right? That is not entirely true. One of the most occurring accidents is a two-vehicle collision. What happens is that someone crashes into the back of your car, you get scared up
and… …before you know it you’ll hit the next vehicle in front of you due to the force of the impact.Volkswagen developed a system that initiates the brakes to prevent the vehicle from crashing into another. We’re driving a 2.0 TDI with a manual 6-speed transmission. In German it’s called ‘handgeschalted’. That’s the most powerful diesel engine available in the Golf. The engine has 150 bhp. You can also start driving a diesel with the 1.6 version… …which produces 105 bhp. If you want to drive on petrol, the entry engine is the 1.2L TFSI that produces 85 bhp. This could be increased to 140 bhp with the 1.4L TSI… …which is the engine that we know from the Polo Blue GT with the cylinder-deactivation system. That’s a very environmentally friendly engine. Not clean enough for the 14% tax regulations in The Netherlands though, but enough for the 20%. The price of the Golf starts at 18,790 euros. And the cheapest 2.0L TDI with a manual 6-speed transmission is over 30,000 euros. There is already a difference of 12,000 euros between those two models. So an Autoblog top hint…..if you want a solid car that is not high-profile, etc. Then order a gray-coloured Golf. Or one in black or white, very original. And if you want a design that is a little bit more distinct…..then go take a look at Seat. And order it in red, just like this car. Much nicer. All those boring colours on the pavement in The Netherlands, I’m done with that. Time to start liking purple, yellow and bright blue again. Subtitles – Arjen-Pieter Troost .
