It’s always comforting to be confident in your ability to get to where you’re going, whether it’s a long-distance trip or just across town. The Navigation Infotainment System in the GTI helps you find your way. The basic method of navigating to a destination is by entering an address manually. With the vehicle parked, begin by pressing the “Nav” infotainment button to enter the Navigation System, then press the “New Destination” soft key and select options to view a drop-down menu of destination choices. Select addresses to enter your house or business address. From the Address screen, enter the state first … then enter city … the street … and the number . Now the system is going to ask you to confirm that the address is correct. Select “Start” to begin route guidance. “The routes are being calculated.” In addition to entering an address manually, it could also be entered using voice recognition.To enter a destination with voice commands, press the “Talk” button on the multi-function steering wheel. After the chime, say “New Destination.” “New destination.” This will immediately take you to the Destination Address Entry Screen. The system will ask you for the address. Speak the address in the order requested: State, City, Street, and House Number. “Please say the state in United States first.” Respond after the chime. : “Michigan.” The system will repeat your request. “Michigan has been applied.” Follow the same steps to enter the street name. “Auburn Road.” The system repeats the street name. “Auburn Road has been applied.” If you make a mistake when entering an address, simply say “Correction.” “Correction.” This will allow you to re-enter the information. “Please say the street in Auburn Hills.” “Hamlin Road.” The system repeats the street name. “Hamlin Road.” When prompted, enter the address number. Be sure to say the number as single digits. “3-8-0-0.” The system repeats the address number. “3800 has been applied.” Now the system asks if you would like to start route guidance. “Do you want to start route guidance?” Answer “yes” to start route guidance. “Yes.” “The routes are being calculated.” When using voice commands, speak clearly in a normal tone of voice, preferably while there are no distracting noises.With your hands never leaving the steering wheel, you’re on your way to your destination. Sometimes that destination isn’t an address. It could be a museum, gas station, or even a
coffee shop. To find a point of interest, press the “NAV” infotainment button, then press “POI” on the touch screen to select your Point of Interest. Tap the other POI soft key to further define your search. Once you have identified your search category, you can select “SAVE”(sic; button actually says “STORE”) to save the point of interest in the destination memory. You can also select “Dial Number” to call the point of interest, or you can select “Start” to begin route guidance. You can now be confident that you will be sure to find the location that you’ve selected. But there are always more than one way to get there, and your GTI can provide you with a choice. In the Navigation Menu, press “Setup” on the touch screen, then press to select “Route Options” soft key.Check the box “Suggest 3 Alternative Routes.” Now when you’re in route guidance, you’ll be given a choice of route options on the right side of the screen. The most economical route is in blue, the fastest route is in red, and the shortest route is in orange. With the GTI Navigation System, you aren’t limited to one screen view. Again, from the Navigation Menu, you can press the “View” function button and then select the conventional two-dimensional map display or three-dimensional birds’-eye view.
