Windshield wipers aren’t glamorous, but they can be unique. The operation of the wipers on GTI is perhaps different than what you are used to. The wiper control stalk is on the right-hand side of the column, at your fingertips. Pushing the stalk down briefly will activate one wipe of the windshield. Press and hold the wiper stalk down for two seconds or more for a continuous wipe. Pushing it up one click engages intermittent wiping. To speed the wipe interval, move the top switch to the right; for more time between wipes, to the left. Now, if your GTI is equipped with rain-sensing wipers, pushing the stalk up one click activates the rain-sensing wipers. The rain sensor automatically turns on the wipers when it begins to rain, adjusting the wiper frequency in line with rainfall intensity. The sensitivity of the rain sensor can be adjusted using the switch on the top of the stalk. An easy way to remember which direction to move the switch is “Left=Less, Right=Rain.” For more sensitivity to moisture on the windshield, move the switch to the right. The next click up is for standard wiping speed, and the top click is for fast wiping. The stalk moves longer washing and wiping. Pushing the stalk away from you one click activates the rear wiper. Pushing it to the limit washes and wipes the rear window. You can also hold it in this position for longer washing. When the wipers are on and the vehicle is placed in reverse, the rear wiper activates automatically for your convenience. GTI’s wiper control is simple, intuitive, and easy to access without looking. Unique? Clearly! .
