This generation Golf, the 6th, is essentially a facelifted Golf 5. Important dimensions like doors stayed the same, but it got a technical update. It doesn’t matter for the story. It’s everybody’s friend: a lot of engines available and different body styles. There’s a convertible, station wagon, 5- and 3-doors hatchback like this one. The Golf has a wide range of engines, from a naturally aspirated 1.4– Not to be recommended in this car. Up to the 2-liter TSI in the Golf R with 266 hp and everything in between. There’s diesels as well. There’s a lot of choice. ENGINES gasoline ENGINES diesel The Golf is a common car. It keeps its value, which makes it more expensive to buy. If you want to sell it, you’ll probably get a good price in return. A lot are for sale on AutoScout. 8,000 Golfs in total. There’s about 3,000 of the Golf 6, so there’s plenty of choice. 1/3 of the Golf 6s on AutoScout is a diesel, 1/4 has an automatic gearbox. However, a Golf with AWD is rare. There’s only a few, like the Golf R.There was also the Golf GTi, the faster editions. 5% of the cars is a Golf GTi or Golf R, for the sporty types amongst you. There aren’t many convertibles; about 2.5% of the cars. 18% is a Golf Variant station wagon. Prices start at 9,000 euros. The price goes up for faster, newer versions. There’s another disadvantage for the Golf and other VW models being common. The satnav is easy to steal. This happened so often, distributer Pon developed a lock. The Navi Lock. There are other POIs as well. The DSG, a double-clutch automatic gearbox, has to change gears smoothly. The gearbox wears fast in certain circumstances. These are expensive fixes. Then there’s the chain tensioners, which make sure the engine components run in sync. The chains and tensioners aren’t sturdy enough, which leads to engine damage when things go wrong. The TSI engines have chains: the 1.2, 1,4 and 2-liter TSI of the Golf GTi and Golf R. Especially the TSIs with twinchargers, the stronger 1.4 with 158 hp or more. These suffer from it the most. You want to have these chains / tensioners replaced or fixed. The newer 1.2 TSI had a recall. Ask if that’s been met. Get information from the seller. If it goes wrong, you’ll engine breaks down. That’s very expensive. Can’t imagine a Golf without a TDI (diesel). The head gasket and fuel pump may leak, adding coolant to the oil. If the oil lever rises, stop the car and call for roadside
assistance.Don’t drive it any further. This car is a nice Golf. No rocket with the 1.4 TSI, but quick enough for normal use. A lot of features without going overboard. Satnav and nice colors (black outside and light interior). A 3-doors is less practical, but it looks better. THIS CAR Thanks to AutoVlietman B.V. Subs – Maru .
