This is the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid. an important car for the Netherlands and we only have one hour to shoot this video, so hop on board!! Right, the Jetta Hybrid. What did they do to convert the Jetta to a hybrid? Up front we have a 1.4 TSI petrol engine with 150 hp, coupled to an 20 kW electric motor and a seven speed double clutch gearbox. Which is pretty special because it’s the first time VW has ever made a Hybrid with a DSG. How that feels, I’ll tell you in a bit. first it’s good to know this car is clean and efficient enough to get the lowest tax rate for gasonline cars.So you can be sure this car will be a success in Holland. On the outside it’s a pretty anonymous hybrid. Only the details show it’s a special version. It has a closed grille, blue logos, aerodynamic side skirts, and a small rear spoiler. Very subtle! Driving away very slowly in EV-modus. In the trunk we find a battery package which should ensure you of fully electric driving. Don’t expect too much, because VW claims the EV-range is no more than 2 kilometres at once. The semi-electric powertrain makes the first two gears go smoother. With a normal TSI+DSG, the first gears can be a bit shaky, the Hybrid does smoothen that out a bit.Next to that, the DSG makes sure you don’t have the screaming CVT-noise you get in other hybrids. That is good. The Jetta is a pretty powerful car when you put the pedal to the metal. The combined power of this car is about 170 hp which makes it possible to sprint from 0 to 100 in less than nine seconds. Even though this is not the way this car is meant, you won’t have a lack of power. One thing is irritating: the way this car brakes. Because of the electric motor it brakes on the engine quite firmly while regenerating the energy. But it reacts a bit too harsh as soon as you apply the pedal yourself. But is there no compromise at all? Well, yes! There is a pretty big bulge in the trunk, containing the battery. Normally the Jetta is a spacious car but the Hybrid offers less space. It’s good though, that the rear seats do fold flat. You could carry bigger stuff, but… it’s a lot less practical than other cars with the same amount of tax breaks, like the Toyota Prius Wagon. .
