I say ‘hello’ to all our friends of ‘ eBlogAuto’! I and Dan, we are testing the new generation of Volkswagen Passat, the eight one. It’s the last test on 2014; we are very excited to have this car. I have waited for a long time this car. Trust me; it is much better than the previous generation. Don’t expect surprises from this car, because it remains a sober one with a classic design, which gives you no emotions while you are driving. However, the quality of materials, comfort and technology raise this car in its class. I consider it part of a premium range and can ever beat with Audi A4, especially in comfort and quality and also in price. This car has an engine of 2.0 liters, 150 PS, 340 Nm, 1700 RPM. The engine can’t be heard in the inside unlike other diesel engines, which have those noisy vibrations. The gearbox is 6 speed DSG and the relationship between the gearbox and the engine is a perfect one, offering you a relaxed trip, so you can be focused when you drive.What I really appreciate about this car is the fact that now the speed is 60 km/h and the gearbox is in the 5th speed. This engine has an enviable elasticity: this engine accomplishes very well its tasks no matter the speed. This engine has a technology for reducing fuel consumption, so it won’t offer you a thrill when you accelerate. But, it’s a car with a proper engine, designed for business class. There is a more powerful engine with 190 PS or the one BiTDi, 2.0 liters and 240 PS (if you want more power). The acceleration from 0-100 km is realized in 8.7 seconds. I think it’s a good value for medium-sized cars. Concerning the safety: it was tested and had reached 5 stars rating at Euro NCAP. This car has a Vehicle Passenger Detection system and can park itself autonomously. It also has the option: Trailer Assist and this it’s a useful thing. We can notice an option: a 360-degree camera monitoring system.The most important option of this car is that when you are backing from a park side: it has sensors that warn you if traffic is approaching from the sides. These optional security systems represent a great advantage for this car. What is the target market of the new Passat? From my point of view, this sedan version we are testing, I recommend to business men. Like Me…. But I am also a family man , so I am more attracted by the Passat Wagon , which offers a more spacious trunk than the sedan version : 650 liters than
586 .The Passat wagon’s boot has a cargo volume of 1780 liters if you split the seats down. The weight of this version is reduced with 80 kilos compared with the previous one. The easier variant of Passat has a weight as the one of a VW.Golf VII. Having such a power and a weight so low, the fuel consummation also it is a reduced one.Making a comparison with the previous version of Passat, I can notice the interior dimensions: the new Passat offers more passenger space with 7.9 cm and the dashboard seems cut at the feet side, which gives you a feeling of comfortableness. But, on your side the seat offers a comfort to feet, necessary for a long road. Seats are comfortable Very comfortable, I feel very good. We can notice heated seats, three zone climate control. This car is characterized by technology. Options added to the new Passat are: car engine start button, the headlights are LED (which look very good). I can say that this Passat has finally a design on the rear side. I like a lot how it’s designed the rear of this car; it has LED tail-lights, which look very good. Also the standard version involves the multifunction steering wheel, which I really like a lot. But, in exchange, the dashboard is characterized by the previous dials. Yeah the conventional ones! For 650 euros extra, it is recommended to add the option: dials with display.The digital display! I really recommend it because for me the infotainment system of a car with 12 inches is not an advantage: it is being placed too low. And the digital display is placed in front of you and helps you a lot seeing all the options. It helps you very well! And I tell you frankly that it is worth. For 650 euros, if you want to buy this option, it’s a good idea. Finally, Volkswagen Passat offers you reduced fuel consumption, comfort, technology, a classic and sober design reaching the premium range. And the most important thing (also for Romania) is the resale price, which is at a very low value. It maintains its value because Romanian people are Volkswagen fans. Like Germans cars: powerful ones. What we don’t like at the new Volkswagen? We can talk about the same position of display, the fact that is an old one. …even if the display is borrowed from Audi TT.And you have discovered this issue with the speed of touch? Yeah, if you try to move very fast the display, the command position remains unchanged. Another inconvenient is the
position of this car: it should have been taller. But, these are subjective opinions. Another opinion is that they should have improved the graphics quality of the rear camera. And the only thing I think is the price.Until now I haven’t mentioned the price. From my point of view, the price is a bigger one. I say on the video, but I will write an article too: the new Passat is divided in two worlds. It is about the world of volume class cars: we tested Renault Latitude, Mazda 6, Hyundai i40, Skoda Superb. But, passing these options of this Passat to the rivalry, we can notice that the price of a Hyundai i 40 with automatic transmission, Mazda 6 also with automatic gearbox fluctuates between 26.000 and 27.000 Euros without options.The present model has a starting price of 29000 Euros. Having the embedded options by Scorpion, the dealer from Focsani, the price arrives at 36000 Euros. I confess that last night, I read the optional list from Passat and I would put a few options at this car: especially the safety features. I agree with you, it would require more options. A head on collision, the pedestrian collision warning system. When you are driving in column, the car can adopt the speed even though it is set to 100km/h. If is a traffic jam in front of you, the car adopts the speed comparing with the car in front of you. After the road is clear, it will return to the initial set speed. This means that it owns the option Adaptive Cruise Control. And there a lot of options that would fit on this car, even if is a volume and premium car because in 2015 we should use the technology. If you have all these options, at a speed of 45 km/h, you can avoid absolutely almost the accidents. We are not having this system, we can’t test it.The options I wrote on a piece of paper last night reached 10000 euros. So the price of the car reaches at 40000 E, 150 PS, 6- Speed DSG gearbox. But, an Audi A4 premium starts from 36000 euros, so certainly attacks premium class competition. I can talk about Mercedes: C Class starts from 38000 euros or even Volvo S60, which begins from 36000 euros. I confess that is the first time I have liked Passat. From my point of view I consider it a premium car.It’s a very good antiphonic car; it has a good position when you are taking turns and has an enviable stability. Also, you can adapt the way you are driving: now, it is the sport mode. It reacts promptly. We have
this ways of driving: normal, sport, eco and individual. I would like the individual mode, so we can manage the car as we wish.And because we are at the end of the test: thank you for joining us and also for the support offered to our young blog from Vrancea county. Another reason is to show the new Passat and also, others cars. Maybe, you will buy it. Not necessary to buy a car, you can go to a car dealership and you can test a car if you like it. This is what we always recommend: when you want to buy a new car, first make a test drive. Do not go by what friends are saying, or what dealers recommend.
