Volkswagen showed the Iroc concept in 2006. “Iroc” formed the middle 4 letters of “Scirocco”, a model out of production since 1816/1817. The responses were great, so this Scirocco was introduced in 2008. The car was well received in the Netherlands, but didn’t sell much. That’s because it was classified as a coupe, which made it inaccessible for leasing. In essence it’s a restyled, more sporty Golf with 3 doors. But yea, it’s a shame. The Scirocco wasn’t a succes. The facelift was introduced recently, but it won’t be sold in the Netherlands. There are reasons to buy a Scirocco. First, it’s more exclusive than the Golf III. That’s something. They keep their value better than the Golf as well. The handling is better than the Golf as well. If you want a 3-doors coupe in this class, this car offers a lot of space. Especially in the back compared to a Megane coupe. There are a lot of gasoline engine varieties, ranging from the 120 hp 1.4 TSI ’til the 261 hp Scirocco R. If you want a diesel engine, that’ll be a 2.0 TDI with 134-168 hp. ENGINES gasoline, diesel About 150 Sciroccos are for Sale on AutoScout24.95% has a gasoline engine, 5% diesel. That means 7-8 diesel cars, so not much choice there. About 3/4 of the cars has climate control. That’s nice. 70% has a manual gearbox, 30% has a DSG. Prices start at 13,000 euros. Most are below 20,000 euros. Prices for the Scirocco R start at 27,500 euros. The youngest, low mileage cars cost 30,000-35,000 euros. PRICES minimum, average, maximum There are a couple of things to watch out for when buying this car. There aren’t many problems with the gearbox, but check for weird wobbles in the DSG’s clutch when driving off.Check if all fluids were changed regularly. In case of a manual gearbox, check if it goes into 2nd smoothly. Sometimes this will be a problem. And no extra sounds in the clutch. If you buy one with an adjustable suspension (DCC), check if all 3 driving modes work and the rear shocks for leakage. That could be a problem, of course. The electric power steering may produce some noise, especially at low speeds. You’ll notice that soon enough. Turn the wheel left and right all the way to know. The Scirocco is too young for rust. If you find some, it’ll be a bad damage fix. Candy White and Salsa Red cars may have color difference between plastic and metal. That doesn’t have to be a bad paint job, i.e. a bad damage fix. It has to do with how the cars left the
plant. The problematic 1.4 TSI found its way to the Scirocco as well. It’s the timing chain, so know that if you buy the 1.4 TSI, especially the one with 158 hp with turbo and supercharger– The engine is known for its problems. There’s a compensation scheme, but it’s not easy to get. Know the 1.4 is a risk. If you live at the border, it might be an idea to go to a German dealer. Compensation is given more easily there. The 2.0 TSI is known for its thirst for oil in VW sister models. It doesn’t seem as bad in the Scirocco, but check the oil level regularly to make sure you won’t break anything. The Scirocco’s interior may be squeaky. Especially rattling side windows are hard to fix, so check for noises. The 19 inch rims look cool, but if you hit speed bumps too fast or encounter a hole in the road, they can crack. Etcetera. You don’t want that. So if you want 19 inch, check for cracks. We collected this car at the Pouw Volkswagen dealer in Kampen. It has a Das WeltAuto certificate, a 12 month warranty. It’s a 158 hp 1.4 TSI with a lot of features, including the RNS satnav we know from Volkswagen. It’s a nice car. Silver-grey, pretty rims… It looks great. THIS CAR Thanks to Pouw Kampen Subs – Maru .
