Hi! It’s Kasia Frendl from Motocaina.pl. Greetings from the Stolowe Mountains National Park. I’m standing at the Hundred Curves Road which takes beautiful twists and turns all the way from Radków. This route is well-known by rally fans as it used to host the Rally of Poland before it was moved to Mikołajki. In this lovely winter scenery, I’m in the mood for testing a car with 4WD. In this area the new Volkswagen Tiguan is being presented, however, in Allspace variant. Let’s take a closer look at this car. The engine bonnet and the exterior are supposed to bring to mind another Volkswagen’s SUV – the Atlas model, developed specifically for the American market. The radiator grille is different from the one in a classic Tiguan and resembles Atlas. It has chrome elements going all the way to headlights. A characteristic feature is a chrome strip running through the front part of the car body. Let’s go, then! I’ve already covered a short test distance. That didn’t make sense because this car isn’t made for sporty driving style at all.I have a 2.0L engine with 150 hp, a DSG, which I can control with levers mounted here, there are 7 speeds available. I have to admit that this car gathers speed quite briskly. I need 9.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to the desired 100 km/h. That happens quite fast, you don’t feel the weight of this car, which is bigger than the conventional Tiguan. Also, driving fast along twists and turns, you don’t feel the dimension of the car. Everything is elegantly balanced here. This car doesn’t lean on turns. I drove into a heavily snow-covered parking lot to simulate conditions I’d expect to find coming near a ski slope, with snowboards in the boot, parking in a soggy snowdrift. So I turned on the Snow mode and the car penetrates the snow easily, the traction is very good. The car cannot be thrown off-balance. Even my unskillful attempts at throwing it off-balance and driving it with a slide are unsuccessful. The 4WD keeps it in check and ensures safety. That’s what this car is made for – to travel with family, leisurely, to contemplate the ride, to admire beautiful landscapes.I’m spellbound by this Hundred Curves Road. There’s some snow lying in the upper parts, there’s a fog, it’s gloomy, the trees look as if they were going to attack the road. All of that makes for a dark atmosphere, like from “The Lord of the Rings.” But it has its inimitable
charm. That makes me appreciate the panoramic sunroof even more, it’s as big as the width of the roof. Unfortunately you have to pay 4,500 PLN extra to get it. Still, it’s worth buying in order to make the interior brighter. The interior of my test car is pewter, well, actually black. The ergonomic seats are extremely comfortable. The interior can be altered at choice. Folding the seats at the back by means of a system unlocking the seats from the boot side or handles placed by the seats, you can increase space in the luggage compartment up to 1920L. Then, the length of the compartment is almost 2m, enough to fit a surfboard. We’ve got lots of encompassing space here, there’s glass everywhere. The car’s interior is clearly visible from the outside, as well as from the driver’s perspective. The tailgate can be opened by means of an Easy Open function, it’s a feature in Highline version. You just have to move your foot in a certain way, so that even when you hold a snowboard in your hands, the tailgate can be easily opened. But until now there hasn’t been a possibility of closing it remotely. Let’s imagine we’ve just taken our sports equipment out of the boot and we wish it closed by itself. There is such possibility, you just have to push a button on a tailgate and it closes automatically 20 seconds after we go a few meters away from the car. You may remember that in the past Volkswagen cars had quite annoying unit injectors making a characteristic noise. At present, however, we’ve got engines with the Common Rail technology and they work much better. I’ve got the Sport mode on, although I’m going slowly now, and the sound of revolutions is almost inaudible, or at least it’s not annoying, while the engine is very dynamic. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h briskly, in merely 9.9 sec.You don’t notice any heaviness when setting this big car in motion. Thanks to the wheelbase increased by more than 10 cm and the bodywork extended by over 21 cm in comparison with a classic Tiguan, Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is one of the most spacious SUVs in its class. This car can be equipped with as many as 7 seats, of course there’s more space for luggage. Thus, it’s an attractive model even for those drivers whose only choice was a van when looking for a spacious car. You can buy Tiguan Allspace starting with the price of 117,000 PLN, this is a price for a variant with 1.4L
TSI engine with 150 hp. This unit has an active cylinder deactivation. You can expect a front-wheel drive as a future feature. The cars with a TDI unit reaching 150 hp can be equipped with a 4WD – 4MOTION, including a Driver Profile Selection system. All other versions of Tiguan Allspace have a 4WD and a DSG as a feature. That’s all from the first test rides in Tiguan Allspace. You can read more about it in my text on Motocaina.pl.
